DIY Disinfecting Wipes
Cold and flu season has been relentless this year, has it not?
It has in our house. We rode in 2020 on a wave of sickness that just kept circling around, presenting itself in different ways, until we were literally in recovery mode every day of two consecutive months.
I feel like I can finally say that we have rounded the corner and are enjoying health now (but I’d like to say that in a hush so as not to jinx things).
It took a LOT of vitamin C, and hot green tea, and drops of essential oils, and epsom salts, and soap, and tissues, and Lysol spray and Clorox wipes…..
My regular cleaning routine had to be stepped up to include a wipe down of all touch-able surfaces in the house.
Every. Day.
This included the toys that the kids were touching, sneezing and coughing all over (after also touching them with disgusting germ-ridden hands)…but I just couldn’t get on board with wiping them down with chemicals that would leave unhealthy residue that my babe would put in his mouth along with…all the things…because we’re at that “everything in my mouth” age and stage.
Enter: homemade disenfecting wipes with ingredients that won’t kill a large grown man dead for licking the building blocks.
This recipe came from The Green Homestead (via an email sent to me from a friend, so I don’t have a link, sorry!). It includes just a few ingredients and rather than use washable cloths as the recipe indicated, I opted for heavy duty paper towels.
I keep these wipes in a glass container, in a dark cabinet, but at the ready for wiping down toys after playtime. I also arranged some in an unused wipes container and tucked them in my purse for those trips to the store where cart wipes are out or are entirely unavailable.
Desperately looking forward to warmer weather so we can throw open windows and air the yuck out — but until then, keep on keepin’ on with the daily (or weekly, at minimum) wipe-downs!
