Notice, Pause, Listen & Act

Confession: I’ve felt a little haunted the last couple of weeks. Not over what I’ve done, but over what I didn’t do.

I can argue that I already have a lot on my plate (truth), and that there already isn’t enough time in a day to get it all done for my own family (truth), or that I did nothing because I simply didn’t know what to do (truer words may have never been spoken).

And while all these things are true, let me tell you this:
–I noticed.
–Just because I didn’t know what to do doesn’t mean nothing needed doing.

I noticed a man who was possibly in need…but I wouldn’t know that for sure because I didn’t ask.

I didn’t ask him but maybe more importantly, I didn’t ask God.

I never posed the question and then paused long enough to listen; to understand what <if anything> God might lay on my heart.

Because I didn’t know what God may have laid on my heart, I was never able to move to action.

And now the moment has passed…

How often in life do we notice but continue on our own <very busy> way, later to be haunted by what we didn’t do?

Or are we so busy on our own very busy way that we fail to even notice?

With so much evil at work in our world, it seems important that we all start doing better…for ourselves and for one another…

Notice.

Pause.

Listen.

Act.

Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

Yes, sins of omission!! That’s exactly what these are…and maybe the reason they are most haunting is because God is using it as an opportunity to teach us to do it differently the next opportunity!
